Double Trouble Rolls into Prescott Elementary

May 23, 2016

PRESCOTT, AR - Southwest Arkansas Education Cooperative (SWAEC) in Hope, Arkansas, brought one of their Double Robotics robots to Prescott Elementary on Monday, May 23, 2016. The robot, nicknamed “Double Trouble,” visited Gifted and Talented students in 3rd and 4th grades. David Henderson, Technology Coordinator for SWAEC, drove the robot from the hallway as the students sat in the cafeteria. The robot rolled down the ramp into the cafeteria as students’ faces lit up with excitement.

After a brief demonstration where David made the robot drive around for a little bit, raising and lowering the neck of the robot, talking with students and generally having fun, students were given the chance to ask David questions about the robot. Questions covered topics such as “How much does it cost? (Retail: $2500, but contact SWAEC for discount pricing)” and “Can you drive the robot from China? (YES! Or from anywhere else!)” and many other questions.

As students asked questions, they were allowed to take turns driving “Double Trouble” around for themselves. Some students loved the opportunity while others decided they would rather just watch.

Double Robotics robots can be used by homebound or hospital-bound students. They can drive the robot from home or the hospital, allowing them to remain active in the classroom, participate in lunch activities with their friends, and move about the hallways of their school. Likewise, the robots can be used by teachers who may be out of the classroom for extended periods of time. The teacher could drive the robot from a remote location while interacting with students live in the classroom.

SWAEC is the exclusive partner for Double Robotics robots in Arkansas. Contact David Henderson, 870-777-3076 or david.henderson@swaec.org, for more information.
